Okonomiyaki recipe
(Japanese Pancake)

What is this "okonomiyaki recipe"?
Okonomiyaki generally means "cook it the way you like".
In Japan Okonomiyaki are one of the most popular dishes,
Okonomiyaki is normally made from flour,shredded cabbage,
eggs, some meat and topped with different kinds of sauce
and Mayonnaise.


Sometime people refer to Okonomiyaki as a Japanese pizza
or Japanese pancake. Many restaurants allow their customers
to prepare and cook their own Okonomiyaki with the BBQ grill
fitted on the table.

However In some places like, Okinawa there are no
Okonomiyaki shops, as people often cook it themselves at home.

Okay lets get on with our Okonomiyaki recipe shall we?.

Japanese Pancake


  • ¼ cup of Corn Flour
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ medium size of Cabbage finely Shredded
  • 2 pieces of Pork Belly slices or Bacon Rasher
    (or prawn if you prefer)
  • 2 tablespoons of Oil
  • Japanese Okonomiyaki Sauce
    (or you can use this for sauce: ¼ cup of Tomato Sauce
    mix with 3 Tablespoons of Worcester Sauce)
  • Japanese Mayonnaise or Best foods Mayonnaise
  • Japanese Dried Bonito (dried fish flakes)


1 Mix the corn flour with 2 eggs and the Cabbage.

2 Heat up the oil in the pan fry. Pour the mixture onto the pan fry to form a medium size oval shape and fry it for 5 minutes with medium heat.

3 Add the slices of Pork Belly on top of the pizza and turn over.
Continue frying for 5 minutes.

4 Place the pizza onto the dish with the pork rasher's side up.
Pour the sauce and the mayonnaise on top of the pizza.

Sprinkle some dried Bonito on top. Serve warm.
